You can make that path a little gentler by offering a voice of compassion and a heart of understanding. Join our team as a Grief & Bereavement Volunteer and help caregivers and family members navigate their loss through meaningful conversation and connection.
What You’ll be Doing:
- Offer one-on-one phone support to grieving individuals once a week for 12 weeks
- Listen with empathy, patience, and care—offering space, not solutions
- Share relevant community resources, when needed
- Stay in touch through phone calls, offering consistent, peer-to-peer comfort
- Be a gentle guide, walking alongside someone through their grief
- Model genuine emotion and respectful, non-judgmental support
What we are looking for:
- Have experienced a significant personal loss and feel called to support others
- Understand that grief is unique, complex, and deeply personal
- Are an empathetic listener with a calm, steady presence
- Communicate with kindness, clarity, and confidence
- Are emotionally grounded and practice good self-care

Time Commitment:
- 1-2 hours per week
- Flexible, remote-friendly schedule
Requirements:
- Police Records Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening
- 2 Reference Checks
- 30-hour online HPCO training
- 3-hour Grief and Bereavement Support training
- Oak Ridges Hospice Orientation
